I was looking at Mr. Cambell’s beautiful alabaster turnings and thought I’d post something I turned out of stone. This is soap stone and cocobolo. I think soap stone must bet much easier to turn than alabaster. I have some alabaster, but never had the nerve to try it. If you have never turned stone it is worth a try. I would suggest starting with soap stone and move up to alabaster.
I also made a shaving set out of soap stone. A soap mug, razor and a brush. If I can find a picture I might add to my projects.

Gorgeous candle Doug, the soapstone looks like a jade stone. What kind of finish is on the stone and cocobolo?

Thank you, the soap stone is just sanded on the lathe to 12000 micro mesh. Then polished. The cocobolo is just polished with tripoli and bee’s wax
