I had not turned a carving mallet before. Not a hard project. Still had a little bit of tear out in the grain but after a few whacks on a chisel I am sure no one will notice. The guy that needed it was happy with it!!! Works for me. He gave me the rest of the wood and a couple bucks for making it for him!!! Now to make my self one.
I believe the wood was some kind of Mahogany. No finish just raw wood is what was requested.
The wood came from a unit of lumber that was stacked on top of it for shipping. This is the bottom sticker that is used to band the lumber into a bunk. The sticker is needed so that the forklift can get under the bunk to unload it from the truck.
Thanks for looking!!!

Howdy James! I like the mallet. I still have to make one of these for myself. Not sure if I really need one but what a great way to spend a few moments in the shop. Thanks for posting and take care dude! This may be the inspiration that I need to get out there do something. ha

Mallets are a great project, the beauty is that you can make them to suit yourself.

This is one o those tools that everyone should have on hand in a wood shop. Nicely done. A handy dandy item
