I've lived a long life already--how long ? I'll just say I'm still counting. As a youngster on our strawberry farm I would help my dad build and fix what was needed. During WW 2, I couldn't find balsa wood for model airplanes so I used cardboard. As time went on there were times when I couldn't do anything with wood; college, Air Force, location, etc.
Now, my kinda shop is in my son's garage. I have a Jet contractor's table saw, a jointer with a fence I made of cypress, a 9" band saw, and a bench top planer from plans in Fine Woodworking magazine Jan/Feb 2005 by Keith Rust. I added five foot infeed / outfeed extensions with melamine. I have a Kobalt miter saw, a scroll saw, drill press, and mostly old hand tools.

Over the years I have built kitchen cupboards, built-in desks, interior trim, a temporary barn/garage, and various shelving, and household items in our new house. When our first son was little i built a lawn car out of four bicycle wheels, a lawnmower engine, pulleys, belts, and plywood. Since moving here I made some wall plaques, bird houses, and a window seat for my granddaughter, and a sturdy bench out of scrap 2x4's. Now I'm planning to build seven display cases for family boots for Texas A&M band. I have I have my son's case for a pattern. I have two questions.
Is 1/8" tempered glass appropriate for them? A clerk said on the phone that it would be. I can't measure the glass in the case I have because how do you get a calipers on and off with it in the grooves? Also, how deep should I make the grooves in every piece? I think 1/4" or 5/16" should work.
My health is not great but I enjoy planning projects.
