So I finally got around to finishing my wood rack thing’m’jigger and tried to organise some of the wood I’ve been given/collected over the last few months.

Turns out I have a lot of things to play with!

In this shot you can see the cedar that my dad picked up at an auction. White and red, very fancy! On the left is a couple interesting pieces I bought on ebay; coachwood, tulip oak and NT red ebony plus a nice piece of purple heart that Larry bestowed upon me!

Camphor Laurel slabs that I used the chainsaw on, they used to be larger slabs but had borers in the edges. Plus up the back is a piece of mulberry tree someone cut down. I painted the ends and am waiting for it to dry :D

Camphor logs cut up into sort of manageable sizes for turning into something interesting.

Interesting story with that camphor, dad cut a few trees down for someone about 16 years ago and gave the timber to me when I was in highschool. It ended up back at his place in the shed after I couldn’t continue woodworking anymore. There it sat all that time drying out until very recently. So it’s all very very dry!

Not pictured is a bunch of pine and some old doug fir fence railings on the top shelf. I just can’t bear to throw good wood away!

I get a little frozen when it comes to thinking of a project. So many choices!

Have your say...
