I've been "learning" to do woodworking for at least 30 years. I don't think I'll ever stop learning. My grandfather was a carpenter by trade so I think I took up the hobby because of him. I am originally from the Jonesboro, Arkansas area but we have lived in northwest Missouri since 1989. Our twin daughters were born here. We attempted to teach them "southern" by getting them to use the term "yall" but they migrated to "you guys" instead and became midwest girls despite all we could do. Both girls are in college now so my wife and I are empty nesters for now. Due to the expense of college, my woodworking projects have by necessity become projects that don't require much wood. So I've shifted from more expensive projects like furniture to small boxes or pens. Besides, our home is furnished with many of the woodworking projects that I have made over the years. Since I'm a mechanical engineer by profession, I enjoy projects that have mechanisms in them.

Hi there,
Welcome to LumberJocks… I joined the site myself a few months ago and will give you fair warning, this site is VERY ADDICTIVE, VERY EDUCATIONAL, and VERY FUN…. so sit back, enjoy the ride and learn from the other LJ’s as they are a group of extremely talented people that are also very friendly…

Enjoy your time here on LJ and pass the word to any of your woodworking buddies about us…
