Location: Manitoba, Canada

Just getting "back" into woodworking as a hobby. Grew up with my dad being a home handyman and a full shop of tools; he was a machinist by training but pursued other employment. From making the cabinetry for their kitchen, to other various endeavors over the years. Like the garden arbor for my mom. To bookcases for my brother and a crib for my sister's daughter.

Always enjoyed looking a various things people build and a love of handcrafts. My last job had me working long hours and downtime didn't really have time...or...ambition to head out to my dad's workshop. For many years I would use up my holidays to go do general labor/handyman work and at time help out at a local Woodworking shop when they needed another set of hands.

Now having more time and love of drafting. Like to draft up a project and figuring out what/how to. Starting with basic woods to get my techniques more up to par.... Many fumbles, like half-lap the wrong side of the divider...errrrr..... twice... Try'n out the various tricks 'n tips people have post here and elsewhere.

Want to eventually make 'heirloom' like pieces for my kids.. I.E.: Son will be a chess box for his glass chess set he has had since he was really young. My youngest daughter will be a Cantilever "Artist Box" and a jewelry box- style not decided. As for my oldest, probably furniture for when she moves out, depending on what she wants. My niece, the Monster High Coffin is done perhaps a sarcophagus for one of her other dolls; but next is a nightstand/side table, or a desk depending on my sister.
