Hello Everyone, I got involved in woodworking shortly before I retired from the Navy, in 2001. It started out with me making shadow boxes and flag boxes for military retirements, and I carried on with that after I left the Navy in 2003. Since then I have discovered that I like turning best, although I still do a lot of other projects, making tea boxes, and whatever my wife requests...
I got back into doing shows last Fall after taking 5 years off from them. I only want to do a few shows. maybe 3-5 a year. I am a member of Tidewater Turners, and the AAW, and I love going to the symposiums to learn all I can pick up. (and get some great deals on wood)
I think my favorite things to make are winged bowls, and natural edge bowls and vases. I have a lot of exotic woods and Aussie Burls that I like to use. I like to find pieces of wood with what some might call "defects", I just think of them as "design opportunities". I enjoy looking at all the projects here on LJs, sometimes it gives me inspiration and sometimes I can see the answers to questions on how something is done. I look forward to getting to know some fellow woodworkers on here.

I was wondering if there was anyone from our area on this site. I’ve been talking about going to a Tidewaters Turners meeting for some time now, maybe I’ll see ya there soon.
I’ve been woodworking for 20 years and turning for about 6.

I know there is at least one other person from down around Shawboro in TT, I can’t recall his name right now tho. I’m not sure if there is a turning club in Elizabeth City, but there is a craftsman guild down there. They have a craft show or two there in town every year.
