Lumber Jocks Site Upgrade needed - 109 replies

First off I love and appreciate this site, especially the people. Basically the site needs two things: 1. A major overhaul to work with mobile and iOS. It’s just not optimized and you can tell on every page you click. Other forum sites are much cleaner, more streamlined, and easy to navigate. Even if we lose some options, in the end, it...

"Fuzzy" area after finishing - 11 replies

Hey jocks, Was wondering how I avoid these fuzzy areas, and what to do about them. This maple slab was sanded up through 150 grit for a very long time (at least 1.5 hrs sanding with ROS up through three grits) It felt smooth and I even raised the grain with water and hit it again with 150. Dropped block plane on concrete from 4 ft. - 11 replies

Hi guys, The other day I accidentally dropped my LN low angle block plane onto my concrete floor. It landed on the top from corner beside the front knob, dinging it pretty good. What I’m worried about, however, is that according to my winding sticks (and straight edge, and $50 ruler) the sole now has a small twist in it diagonally....

What do you charge per hour? - 90 replies

Hey guys and gals, Ever since sharing my projects on social media apps (like snapchat), I’ve had two inquiries about commissioned projects. Including one for the table I put up on here (see my projects if you’re interested). He may have me build him one. (I’m not selling him mine… I’m too attached to it lol) I...

One thing that changed the game for me.... - 5 replies

I know a lot of you veterans know it, but finding a local hardwood dealer has changed EVERYTHING for my woodworking. I’m talking a guy with a boom truck and bandsaw mill. He gets calls at his tree service, and collects the lumber while getting paid to do so. Then he mills it, dries it, and sells it to me! What a beautiful business model...
