I was a carpenter/contractor for many years. One day while I was at a Woodcraft store I saw a book on Band saw Boxes and thought it would be cool to try out making one. I really enjoyed making those so I went back to Woodcraft to see what other woodworking books they had. Saw one on Power Carving and figured I would give it a try. This was what I was looking for! I ended up buying every kind of power carving tool I could afford and every sanding device known to man. I also started making a few pieces of furniture for people on request. But carving was and still is what I love the most. When I retired (sort of! ) from contracting I decided to carve until my hands quit working. I love carving bowls because unlike turning, you can keep the natural shape of the log piece. Living in Texas I have access to a lot of Mesquite so that is the primary species I use although I get my hands on other species occasionally. Woodworking is without a doubt the most enjoyable part of my day.
