Alcove - man needs rest in his nest...
Alcove
man needs rest in his nest…
Alcove for the new work shop, when I got my work shop app a year ago, I decided that it would be nice to have a place to crash and also to rest when I had a day with neck pains.
So when I saw a pile of old windows in the street, I brought them to the shop and started putting things together.
At the moment the work shop is closed down for restore, the alcove removed - but just got the message that I can move back in at the 20 of December, so I look forward to get back.
Though I have decided to not put up the alcove again and bought one of these inflatable mattresses instead, in this way I get more space and can lay in front of the stove, looking into the flames instead.
Here the back room when I just moved in, it was this corner I decided to make into a alcove.
So first a basic frame, made to fit the recycled windows.
In the shop room I made a nice shelf that would become a part of the inside, to put little things and candles and yes to give it a look that made it 'as if it had always been there'.
With the 66 I made gave edge some life and vintage look.
A fascinating tool, so fast and easy to bring a little extra life.
Go slowly deeper and deeper, like this you will get a crisp finish.
You can make the same with a scratch stock.
Some of the windows need a little trimming, but this is easy with a good workbench and a dead man…
A dead man: http://lumberjocks.com/mafe/blog/32968
When all was put together, it was just to paint.
Tataaaa, the alcove is now a reality.
Two of the windows are functioning as the entrance and under is there room for storage.
Here my sweet daughter, have no idea what she is doing.
As you can see I cut a mattress to fit the strange shape.
Here it is, a little dust free spot to lay down and rest.
A cave in the cave.
But as I said, when I move back this will be the place where I will sleep if I stay a night.
And for the day rest, will be done like this.
I have become quite fond of the hammocks.
Like here in my living room.
You can see more about this hammock here: http://lumberjocks.com/mafe/blog/37720
Thank you for watching hope no one fell asleep, perhaps it can inspire to a nap…
Best thoughts,
Mads
