Large router base, for my palm router.

Large router base
for my palm router.

I bought a cordless palm router some time back and love it (Makita DRT50ZJX2), but once in a while I would love a larger base for it, to give me more stability, so this one was made out of need and with lots of joy, smiles.

A piece of acrylic is cut to size and the desired dimensions of base and offset part is marked up with an awl, directly on the acrylic.
Here I use some of the 6 mm disco green acrylic, my friend gave me he had salvaged it from a trash container).

First it was cut roughly to size on the table saw and then the round parts were sanded on my disc sander to follow the marking.

Once the base is acrylic, it's easy to see the screw positions through it on your router, so holes can be drilled.

Had an old knob in my drawer of nonsense, that originally came from my planer, this got a hole, so it could be permanently mounted on the base.

As easy as farting after eating cabbage…
MaFe!!!

Now ready to rock and route, with more stability, than the small base can provide, when needed.

I know this is so easy, anyone can do it, but sometimes all we need to do things, is a little inspiration.

Hope it can be to some inspiration, or perhaps add stability to your life…

Hi,
Lew, yes also that, even the router is surprisingly stable, I was expecting it to be more top heavy with a battery there.
Jim, always improving, that's the game, smiles thanks.

Router insert plate, for palm router.

Router insert plate
for palm router.

I have already posted several projects where I use this one and more or less a blog where I show where to make it, so this is an extra one, with the plate only.

If you decide to make it, then make two or three as you are at it, as this takes no time, while you are at it - then you can make several different tables and have options ready in the drawer.

First cut some pieces to size at the table saw.
I made them 12×12 cm.
Here I use some of the 6 mm disco green acrylic, my friend gave me he had salvaged it from a trash container).

Marked up 1 cm in on the plate all the way around and marked the corners.

Drilled and counter sink for the screws to mount the plate into the table.

Also took of the palm routers base and placed it under the plate, to mark the routers bolt holes and drilled out for these.
You can do several as you have it all marked.
If you plan on using different routers or bases, you can make holes for these as you are there.

Plate mounted on the router.

Running a bit through the plate.
I choose a medium size bit and will route it bigger when needed.

The router comes with a fence, so I decided to cut a long hole for this.
In my case 1,7 cm in, with an 8mm bit and made it 3,2 mm wide, using stops, to control the cut.
Notice I use one of the new router plates here, with a home made fence and stops.

Here you can see it, right over the fence fixture on the base.

Fence can be put in place.

Used to make another.
But this is a little wobbly, so you should mount the plate in a table.

Tadaaaa!

The insert plate can also be used as a large base.

Also made a starting pin and holes in the plate for it.
The holes were made on the 1 cm line, in the centre.

I had a piece of aluminium bar, so just a threaded rod, a threaded hole in the bar, washer and a wing nut.

Mounted on the table.

Hope it can be to some inspiration, or even insert plates.

Router fences, for palm router.

Router fences
for palm router.

Another simple inspiration blog, with accessories for the palm router, this time fences.
Simple side fences and a split fence.

Some of you have seen the basic acrylic fence I made for the palm router, I use it all the time and the transparent fence is quite cool.

Edges were rounded over.

Holes and countersink made at the drill press.

Bolt, wingnut and washers.

For some reason the holes in the fence are crazy large…
So I filled them up with small washers, but will make a washer, that fits there.

Less is plenty.

Next up is a more advanced split fence.
Some form work plywood is cut up. (type used for concrete casting).
I use this, as it is strong, stiff and smooth.

Rabbet cut to fit the fence dimensions.
Then cut in half.

Marks are made when the two sides are closed up.

And when opened up.

Long hole is routed between the marks.

Rabbet on the other side.

So a flat head bolt can ride in it.

And held in place, by a wingnut, so it can be opened and closed easy.

All edges rounded over.

Mounting the fence.

Washers to fill the hole.

Top washer and wingnut.

Front.

Back.

Router fence set to fit the bit size.

Here mounted on the table.

While I was at it, I also made a longer straight fence.

Edges rounded over.

Front.

Back.

Less is longer as they say…

Hope it can be to some inspiration.
