This post is dedicated to my good Danish pal Mads. I was in Denmark this winter as my dad was ailing and did die.
He was 92 and he wanted to go.
While i was there I got to visit with Mads, which is always great. At that visit he gave me this.

This was a challenge to me as I have always wanted to make a shoulder plane.
I had some repurposed maple doors that I used. I had to glue several pieces together to make the body.

After the glue up I did the geometry and made some cuts and some more glue ups.

My new Me

I added some art deco touches to the final plane by adding some walnut to the plane.

Since this is a thanks to Mads I thought it would be proper it insert a pipe into the finished product.

I am not very good at carving, but then again Mads is easy to duplicate with a pipe.
Thanks Mads. Always nice to visit you. We seem to forget the beers!!

So far the plane works just great. I still have to fine tune the iron and the sole to get everything to 90 deg. I am close but just not there.

Nice Madts. Plane building is a rewarding passtime. It can also be habit forming ….. but in a good way.
I love the pipe. It looks a lot like Mads.

Laughs, I also like your new you!
How on earth could we forget the beers? This gives us a reason to meet up again, so I am happy.
Madts I am really impressed with your work, looks like a wonderful plane you made and that iron could not sit in a better place.
My ohhh you made me laugh big, big time, but I was also sad I did not see the post before, hope you forgive me.
Yes I think also it is a replica of me, the vintage architect smoking, while resting on a plane iron.
Thank you for your visits in Copenhagen , I do enjoy your company.
Best of my thoughts,
