Part 1: It begins

I am starting a bath vanity in federal style. The design starts with the vessel sink my wife has chosen. The top will have a radius 2” larger than the sink. The space for the vanity is small; it took several sketches before we came up with a design. Next were full scale drawings of the vanity to support the top.

Part 2: Starting with the doors

The doors are a challenge. I needed to build two forms, one for the center and one for the two outside doors. The same forms will be used for the panels in the top. For the center form I had to account for the thickness of the door as the form is on the inside of the door. The form for the outside doors was the opposite. I do not have a vacuum press but straps seemed to work just fine. The doors are laminated using six layers of 1/8” bendable plywood; hot hide glue was used. ...
