This is my first new lathe, it is a “Central Machinery 12”x36 wood lathe sold by harbor Freight. Having very little lathe turning experience I have nothing to compare this lathe with. So far, I have not experienced any of the problems some of the reviewers who have bought this lathe from Harbor Freight have posted on the website. Part 2: Follow up on lathe filter comments

Fellow Lumberjock Jim Jakosh asked some valid questions concerning my DIY air filter. He asked about the clearance when turning a large bowl with the filter in place. So, this morning I measured the clearances, if any, between the end of the filter and the face of my 6” dia. faceplate and my four jaw chuck. Taking the filter off, I measured 3/8” clearance between the end of the motor and the face of the faceplate. I measured 1 1/8” clearance with the four jaw chuck in ...

Part 3: Head Stock and Tail Alignment Issues

The Head Stock on this particular lathe is designed to rotate at varying degrees up to 180 degrees. One of the issues fellow Lumberjock William, A.K.A greasemonkeyredneck pointed out to me was keeping the head and tail stock in alignment.
