Cedar - 3 replies

Has anyone used cedar to scroll saw? My cousin has a great small business manufacturing bird houses/bat houses/bee boxes (welliver outdoors her out). Anyway, she’s offered me any of the scraps. All different sizes, but a lot of 6×6 or 8×8 pieces at 3/4 of an inch thick. Any negatives to scrolling this stuff? Not your typical deep red c...

Dust Collection - 9 replies

Looking for some ideas for dust collection. My shop currently is in half of a two car garage with extremely limited space. I have a table saw, liter saw, scroll saw, router and hope to get a band saw at some point. I’m currently using a shop vac with a small hose after the fact to keep things relatively clean. I want to start doing a little bett...

Finishing Advice - 10 replies

I bought a piece of cool looking spalted maple from a local “mountain man” selling slabs at an arts fest today. The price could not be beat and he and I ended up exchanging numbers as he had some great stuff. We are finishing our basement with a rustic theme and we want to use this as a coffee table. As you can see in the pictures, the slab is n...

Scroll sawing Advice - 2 replies

Hey all. Been having some fun building on some of my other machines, but am looking to start with my scroll saw. I need something I can do after the kids go down and isn’t loud enough to wake them. Been looking at some of the silhouette items online and some inlay items online, but really not a lot of guidance. Essentially, I have two ques...

Round Over Bit and then some - 3 replies

So I had been wanting a router, but wasn’t a need. I’d want it for doing some round overs, but until I was doing more I held off. In a nice stroke of luck, a co-workers husband works for Stanley B&D and after hearing me talk about it bought me a Dewalt 1.25HP Variable Spped Router (DWP611). Extremely gracious and will help my growing hobby s...

Brazilian Maple - 7 replies

Any of you all familiar with this wood? A neighbor of mine was getting rid of a bunch of flooring in that was Brazilians maple. I don’t think it’s ever seen a floor though. Was thinking about using it as a table top for an entry way table in making. Any thoughts about the species?

Outfeed Support - 14 replies

I finally have my hand me down Delta 10” contractor saw up and running. The one thing I’m concerned about is an outfeed. I’m on limited space in my garage so a full on outfeed table isn’t going to work. I was looking at one of the single stand roller outfeed, but the more I read, the more I see it as a hazard than a help. I came to find this Rig...

Planers - 5 replies

Hi all. New to the forums. Just moved into a home after being in a condo for 10 year and in negotiating my garage with my wife, I earned half for a shop. Relatively new to woodworking. Have made some smaller items in the past, but looking to do more furniture like work. Planer Question. Just picked up a small Stanley Handyman planer, a Sears Cra...
