First time going to the lumber yard, which wood to buy for a dresser - 15 replies

I might be a bit spunky with this project, but I’ve learned if I go slow, think hard, and give myself forgiveness for mistakes, I can manage a project that is a big stretch for my actual skill set. I’m going to build this dresser… https://www.canadianwoodworking.com/plans-projects/heirloom-dresser Problem is, I’ve n...

To glue or not glue? - 2 replies

I’m building a cabinet for my table saw, and I just can’t settle a debate in my mind right now. Should I glue and screw the mobile base supports to the main plywood base, or do I just screw it in? The supports are poplar, so one of my concerns is wood movement causing issues later on… Or would glue do more to prevent warping la...

How to plane small boards without a planer/jointer - 5 replies

I’ve been losing my mind trying to find answers on how to plane small boards without a planer or jointerI’ve seen 10 billion people on YouTube showing router sleds to thickness some giant slab. Great, but with a small board, you don’t have the weight of a slab holding it down. I swear I even came across a video on “how to...

Paint MDF on workbench surfaces? - 4 replies

I’m building a router table that uses MDF for the fence, including sliding fence faces. I’ve been toying with the idea of painting the MDF a nice orange color, but I’m not sure if there’s a way to do this without it eventually rubbing off and ending up on workpiece surfaces.I was thinking I’ll spray paint the orange...

How big of a dado can I cut on an old craftsman 113 table saw? - 4 replies

I am setting up for a 3/4 dado cut and the arbor doesn’t fully thread, but it’s secure. What is the largest dado anyone has cut using an old craftsman 113? I read that some have removed the arbor washer to accommodate the dado stack. Is this a reasonably safe solution? This is my current situation. Go, or no go? Thanks ...

Troubleshooting Second hand Vega Pro 40 - 4 replies

Hello everyone! It’s been quite some time since I last attempted to set up my shop. Guess now is a great time to get everything set up, unless you’re missing things you need! I bought this off Craigslist a couple years ago and never finished my table saw project to actually install it until now. Does anyone know what size Allen ke...

Need arbor for old craftsman 113 - 3 replies

I have a craftsman 113.298761 I am restoring and wanted to replace the arbor bearing since I had it taken apart. Didn’t have much luck getting one of the bearings off and managed to warp the end of the arbor. I am worried it could cause some wobble once I get it back together, and I don’t want to have to risk having to take it back...

Was metal filler used on my cast iron top? - 10 replies

While refinishing my table saw top I came across several areas where there are small and pointy bumps in the top. I am wondering if metal filler was used to try and fix pitting in the top at one point. Anyone know what it could be? I am also worried that some of these small bumps are pointy enough to scratch my work piece, but I am not sure ho...

Bosch Jigsaw Broken - 23 replies

It’s been almost 2 years since I was able to work in my shop (and will probably be another year before I can be back regularly), and I broke my jigsaw today. I have a Bosch JS572E that I bought shortly before I had to pack up my shop. Today while I was setting up I accidentally bumped a table I set my jigsaw on and it fell about 4 feet to ...

Old Craftsman Table saw 113.298761 - 26 replies

Perusing the local Craigslist ads today I saw a very indescript ad for a craftsman table saw. No model number, no picture, just a couple lines and they wanted 70 bucks. The guy texted me a picture but didn’t have time to give me much more than the model number. I said without knowing the condition I’d drive there and buy it for 40 bu...

Radial Arm Saw? - 9 replies

Since my current table saw doesn’t accept dado blades and I do not currently have a drill press, I was considering this radial arm saw on Craigslist: http://stlouis.craigslist.org/tls/4846405313.html Would this be a good option and is it as good of a deal as it seems to be? Thanks all!

Dado Blade for Dewalt 7480 - 3 replies

I was looking into getting a dado blade for my table saw when I learned the dw7480 does not allow for one. Funny thing is, Dewalt does sell a throat plate for a dado blade, but I believe this is for the DWE7490X. Does anyone know if anyone has safely mounted a dado blade on this saw before, or if there is a way to modify it?

Beer Hall Table - 6 replies

I went to a local micro brewery for dinner tonight and was considering the possibly of recreating the tables they have for my own dinner table. My wife loves the idea and it looks petty straight forward, but being new to woodworking I thought I’d ask a few questions. Judging by these photos what kind of wood do you think this is? I...

Shop Upgrades with a Bonus - 4 replies

Today while perusing the Craigslist ads in my area I finally found an air compressor. The only catch was it came with A LOT of extras and it was $150. So to get this: I had to get this: So among the pile was of course the obvious, a half decent shop vac, a hopper gun, and boxes of treasures. Okay, boxes of junk with some treasur...

Router Table DIY - 12 replies

In the next few weeks I will be investing in my first router. I plan to get a Bosch 1617evspk. I have been researching DIY tables since I have read a lot of negative things on any table that is budget friendly. I highly considered the Bosch RA1171 or RA1181 which would suffice my needs at the moment but I imagine as my knowledge grows I’...

New to woodwork - 13 replies

So I started building up my own workshop in recent months since I now have the space to do so in my basement. I have a lot of pretty basic questions that have come up watching how to videos on different things I’d like to build. I just built my first work bench and would like to really start on more projects. Here are a couple pictures o...
