« Part 1: Primitive vs your a half ass wood worker. Part 2 of More of Rant than a blog series Part 3: Snap, Crackle, Son of A B%!*$ »

I have seen on here quite a few post bashing on tools bought through harbor freight most notable in reference to central machinery. you get what you pay for plain as day. Granted most stuff if its too good of price than it is probably junk. How ever I will say this about Central Machinery. I have A drill press through them. It replaced my old General electric drill press that finally kicked the bucket and was going to be to costly in respects to buying a new drill press. This is one of the better units I looked at. I found no issues in the set up and operations of this press. The owners manual couldn’t be any clearer. I don’t care if you are a newbie to wood working and power tools, this drill press is simple to operate, changing the belts isn’t anymore difficult than changing a light bulb, adjusting the table is just as simple. Bashing Harbor Freight is absolute nonsense too. They are a discount tool retailer. Just like any retailer they have to cater to what people are willing to spend. while granted most of what they carry I wouldn’t buy because to me price reflects quality. if its cheap its meant to break,

I think you hit the nail on the head cost/benefit is the key here. Many people bash harbor freight because they want a $5,000 tool for $50 dollars. There ain’t no free lunch. Some tools are diamonds in the rough; the 2HP Dust Collector as example.

Many of the popular woodworkers on YouTube and the blogsphere continue to praise the unit as a diamond in the rough. You see them use the unit or modify it to be better until they’re in a better economic situation to upgrade.

The big difference though with those people is that don’t see them bashing they’re former purchase one they acquired an upgrade. Instead the are realistic…this was great tool for the price and worked well until I could get something better …which is the reality…there is always something better. Chevy Vega or Mercedes Benz what fits you financial situation now and possibly in the future.

If I bought a $2000 Powermatic dust collector for my garage shop where I go once a month to cut firewood on $4000 Saw Stop I will naturally ridicule Harbor Freight tools owners whose priority in life is something else than having the best of the best tools.

@ 716 you can have your 4000 dollar saw stop, I will use my 1960’s craftsman cabinet saw, I can do the same things as your overpriced saw. but then again you missed the whole point of the article. if some one is can afford a $4000 saw and $2000 dust collector good chances their not buying a tool through harbor freight

There are a couple of other forum bashing Harbor Freight and in all reality there is no reason to bash them at all!
I have bought a number of items, have been very satisfied, happy with the price, and never had a need to return anything.

We should start bashing Craftsman for their line of power tools, over priced and low quality!
