Price change on Delta 36-725 - 31 replies

I haven’t been too active here for a few months, so may have missed this being brought up already. But while in Lowes today, I saw that they have put the price of the Delta 36-725 back to their original price of $599. A few months ago they lowered it to $549. I still haven’t bought a table saw, as I’m in no rush and have bee...

Grizzly G0478 vs Delta 36-725 - 6 replies

Found a very clean looking (like new) Grizzly G0478 with 2 sets of rails (36” and 50”) plus extra zero clearance inserts for $550. This is a 2 HP hybrid saw originally purchased in 2008. Curious about how any experts here would compare it to the latest Delta 36-725 for roughly the same price.

Grizzly sale - 1 reply

Just got my spring/summer sale catalog from Grizzly. The GO715P isn’t discounted, but the 1023RL has $100 off. They’ve knocked $10 off some dust collectors, mobile bases, etc. Sale applies Mar 31-Jul 31.

Delta 36-653c - 2 replies

One of these (Delta 36-653c) showed up on local CL recently, for $450. Did a search and couldn’t find any info about this TS on this forum. Does anyone have experience with this saw? Given the recent fairly positive comments about the new 36-725 at Lowes for $599, this one is likely a little over-priced unless it has features justifying...

Slow Website? - 20 replies

Is it just me, or are others finding that this site sometimes takes a long time to load threads? I can often pull up other bookmarked websites quickly while this one just spins and spins trying to load the info. So I don’t think it is my internet connection or computer (new macbook pro).

Best router speed for dovetailing - 11 replies

I’m making a second attempt to make dovetail joints in 1/2” baltic birch plywood. I just acquired a variable speed PC router. Does anyone know the best speed for using 14 degree 3/4” dovetail bits?

Create a matte finish on satin lacquer - 9 replies

I have used satin lacquer on my desk project, but find it a little too glossy since the other custom cabinets in the house are finished to a matte and I’m trying to match it. I have 3 or 4 coats of satin Watco aerosol lacquer on one of the pieces and haven’t done the others until I’m satisfied I can get the right effect. Ca...

Correct conditions for spraying aerosol lacquers - 2 replies

I’m finishing my desk project with satin lacquer, using Watco and Deft aerosols. Given that these products seem to dry fairly quickly, I’m wondering how important it is to worry about humidity etc. I’ve read articles that lacquer shouldn’t be sprayed if the dew point is within 20 degrees of room temperature. My curre...

Dovetailing with Baltic Birch - 4 replies

I’m making file cabinet drawers for my L-shaped desk project, and decided to make my first attempt at dovetailing. I purchased a MLCS jig and tried it for the first time today. I’m making my drawers with 1/2” baltic birch. In practicing my first joint today, I found that when trying to set the bit depth to 1/2”, the ...

Using sprayed toner - 13 replies

I’m spraying a coat of toner on my maple desk components prior to spraying the stain, as recommended and supplied by the cabinet shop that made all the other cabinets in my home. I’m finding that the toner color is too dark if put on reasonably heavy, and looks better if I put on a light coat. But applying a light coat is tricky sin...

More on finishing maple - 11 replies

After obtaining ludicrously high quotes for fabricating a built-in desk with file drawers and overhead cabinets, I decided to do it myself. I knew my biggest challenge would be to match the style and finish of the other (maple) cabinets in my 7 year old home, all of which were done by a nearby cabinet shop. I did get a quote to have them make ...
