Last week I ordered 100 BF of black 5/4 walnut

I’m hoping it gets here before I head to Chile for 11 days, plan is to begin some serious projects once I get back. Not sure what even 100 BF looks like to be honest. I figured I had to make some lumber racks to keep the walnut off the ground when It comes.

I roughly followed Jay Bates $5 lumber rack plans.

Once I screwed the 2 parts together I realized I had no good way to sand them down after I made my curves. I’ve been holding off buying an OSS and decided there was no better time then now to get one.

I went with the rigid combo belt/spindle sander from HD, $199 with 10% off and $180 worth of gift cards I bought at 88%. not bad price, I’m happy about it!

I played around with it and shaped my racks, they turned out OK I guess, good enough for now. Once installed I out my tiny bit of lumber I had on hand to test them out.

I’ll probably have to make another row for the 100 BF I’ll do that over the next couple of days, I’m running out of time before I head to Santiago and vina del mar. I’m planning on doing some partying and sightseeing along with playing 1 LAPT poker tournament.

I’ve also been working on a little project for my late best friends parents. Basically doing exactly what steve Ramsey did here, and add his initials and a “III” as he was the third.

so far they’re turning out OK, made some small mistakes abut I think I made them work…

$405 for the wood but another $256 to ship it to my house. Hope that it’s a good deal. Considering I don’t have many options I had to do something

That’s fairly typical pricing. You will find that 100 board feet doesn’t make as big of stack as you probably hope it does. I will be looking forward to seeing your projects.

Welcome to Lumberjocks.
