It looks like I may have to add another posting to The Shop series. I got a call from Sam at MiniMax, and my Jointer/Planer combo has been shipped. According to the good folks at FedEx, it will be delivered on Friday – Yay! As luck (fate?) would have it, I’m off tomorrow. So, after breakfast, I’ll be sitting in my driveway like the pathetic tool-troll that I am .. waiting … drooling only slightly.

This purchase has pretty much wiped out the tool budget for the rest of the year (and then some). My hope is that by the end of the long weekend, I’ll have all of the woodworking equipment out of the basement, and into the shop. I’ll take a couple of pics tomorrow of the Grand Arrival. I also ordered it with the mortising attachment, but that may have shipped separately.

About the only other thing that I would like to have (machines, that is—there’s always room for more hand planes!) is a wide belt sander. That will have to wait until next year though. Between the shop renovation/creation, and the tool purchases (only 2, but they were both MiniMax), it’s time to stop spending and start building stuff.

I am excited for you. This will be a nice addition to your ever growing list of toys. How about posting a review and installation blog when you get it in?

Congrats! I am looking forward to hearing of your experiences and impressions of this combo machine. I have considered a combination machine purchase of this type and have wondered if the bed length will be an issue when joining.

What size is it and what did it set you back?

I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.

Gary – It’s the MiniMax FS30 Smart. 12” Jointer/12” Planer. 59” Jointer table, 4.8 hp, and weighs 650 lbs!
I got it for $3500, as it’s a refurbished unit – still waranteed though. I’ve got a pile of Mesquite boards that I’ll introduce it to next year – the MM20 finished with them last week; log to boards.

I’ll post over the weekend once it arrives, and I get it set up.
