21 posts in 4244 days Location: South Charleston WV I've been around wood working nearly my whole life. My Grandpa has a woodshop in his basement and I can remember bugging him to make me "swords" or "guns" as a kid. In highschool I realized that his shop was really cool and had a lot of equipment and tools in it that most people didnt have (I guess I just thought everyone's Grandpa had a woodshop in their basement). I started playing around on my own and looking at projects in magazines for inspiration and ideas to make original items. I made several small things, but never really committed much time to woodworking as a whole. I made a laminated stool with a walnut/cherry/ash/oak top, and I made a cedar chest with a rounded top (it took me forever to figure out how to clamp the thing), and several clocks, shelves, and other necesities. I bought my first house 2 years ago and have been trying to figure out how to set-up my own shop ever since. I have a few saws now and have decided that my basement will become a woodshop, just like my Grandpas. I am realizing that the tools that he collected over a lifetime are going to cost a ton of money! So I am looking for good deals on tools (probably like everyone else) and am slowly putting together a decent shop. I have a lot to learn, but I enjoy woodworking and am always looking for a new pattern or idea to bring to life with wood. Latest Activity | view all »

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.
God Bless

Hi there,
Welcome to LumberJocks… I joined the site myself a little over a year ago and will give you fair warning, this site is VERY ADDICTIVE, VERY EDUCATIONAL, and VERY FUN…. so sit back, enjoy the ride and learn from the other LJ’s as they are a group of extremely talented people that are also very friendly…
Enjoy your time here on LJ and pass the word to any of your woodworking buddies about us…
