I have finished and refinished many,many pieces and find the least invasive method is usually best. Sanding to remove a finish should be low down on the list of options. It is a good idea to try and identify the finish that is on the piece before anything else is done. A piece that old had either a shellac or varnish finish, most likely shellac. I’m afraid this sounds more critical than I meant for it to, the piece turned out fine.

Well, another year has rolled by. It must have been a fun year because it seems like yesterday when I congratulated you on be a LJ for 2 years. Congratulations on your 3rd anniversary at Lumber Jocks. Thanks for helping make LJ a great place to visit and happy anniversary!
