Now aged 79. What worries me is all the planes I have accumulated . The first was a No 4 from my Dad . A small block plane and a perfect No 7 Stanley for joining violin plates . Self taught and they play well too. I used to play in amateur orchestras . One soloist was John Williams on guitar .One Stanley 4 & 1/2 given to me by my daughter`s partner (from his grandfather). 2 wooden planes bought for about £3 on a market stall .(out of curiosity ). Two RB10 replaceable planes .The early model difficult and a nuisance . The later model works perfectly (now). I had it for 20 years before I flattened the sole. Before that it was a dead loss . One Stanley No 5 . Always produces dead straight surfaces . One rare Spear and Jackson in red No 4. That gave me a lot of trouble . The lever in the lever cap was out of shape. That inherited a Stanley cap as the straight keyhole always came loose . I tried a stay-set in it but abandoned that as the frog lever hole was too big . A very fussy plane but generally I can make it work very well .For all it`s quirks I just like it .
Lastly for now one Acorn 4 &1/2 which is pre Stanley and has a frog base that is all on one sloping angle . It`s just like a Bedrock without a depth adjuster . As a plane it works just as well as the Stanley. It has a tiny brass wheel adjuster .
In the next few days I will receive a No 5 Rapier plane (made in Gateshead ). More curiosity .I always liked the look of Rapier planes .
The chap across the road gave me a plastic box full of molding planes . Of course I had to get all of them working after releasing and the stuck wedges .
