I am a computer engineer - networking for the most part. I work for an on line education provider in Pleasanton CA. I am a Boston native, and transplanted out here about 15 years ago.

I play guitar and woodwork. I tend to move back and forth between the two. I am an accomplished guitarist but pretty much a beginner at woodworking.

I started my shop in a very large gorgeous basement in Massachusetts, then had to move it all into my 2 car garage in CA. It has taken some adjustment. Particularly because I am 6' 9" tall and not skinny, and not having a lot of space to move around it =tough - particularly with overhead door tracks etc.

I bought a Sawstop cabinet saw when they first came out. I own a Diefenbach bench, and my pride and joy is my Japanese chisels - I own an absolutely gorgeous set of Samurai Sword steel chisels made by Mr. Imai. They are stunning tools. I love them. I sharpen with a Lap-Sharp system that I really like - does an exceptional job. I have several Japanese planes as well. I am growing more towards hand tools as I get older - I really like the connection with the wood. I also like the "acquisition" of hand tool skills. It is a great feeling to make a nice set of dovetails by hand.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the nice welcome. There was a slight problem with the block in the far corner but that problem has been corrected. The item you see i am working on is an old chemistry desk from my old grade school from 45 yrs ago i paid $10.00 for i am converting into a main work bench. Sounds like you are using every square inch of the garage.
