I have built a number of bookcases since completing my first woodworking project in 1983. All of these bookcases are my own design. One design I really like is called the Kirkwood. I have built so many bookcases, I decided to begin naming newer ones after antebellum homes. One of my favorite such homes is Kirkwood in Eutaw, Alabama (see it by clicking here).
This bookcase is basic case construction with the addition of bracket feet and moldings.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks for sharing! I’m just getting started with woodworking and plan to work on some built-in bookcases as my first project. I own more books than a person should probably. I read somewhere that folks like me with lots of books often get into woodworking to help fill this very important need- lots of shelves. . . I’ve been experimenting with different designs using sketchup. Now I’m in the process of sourcing materials. If you have any suggestions on the best places to look for solid hardwood or hardwood ply I’d love to hear them. Figuring out how to choose and source a “right” wood is a bit daunting.
Best,
Mike
