Floating shelves

Another family project…..Son wants “floating shelves” on the TV wall in their family room. After a bit of research, I happened upon a plan for using hollow core doors. Just so happens, that a neighbor threw out a couple of them a few days ago…...I grabbed them. After sawing the long way down the middle, I was left with two 8.75 inch slabs. I cut one to 6 ft and the other to 2 ft lengths. After cutting out some of the cardboard webbing, I placed a filler piece in the ends where needed, and another the long way, about 2 inches inside the cavity. After a coat of paint and poly varnish, all I have to do is mount a wood strip on the wall, slide the pocket side over the wood strip and screw the upper surface to the strip. Pretty easy….and it recycles!
