no previous part Part 1 of Credenza / Entertainment Center series no next part

Started on my entertainment center / credenza project today. If you look back in my posts you can probably find one with my design questions, but here’s where I landed:

Everything is going to be stained red oak to match its destination. I started by picking my best rift-sawn boards and cut them to length.

Then ripped them to width. I did this in about 4 or 5 passes, kind of like sneaking up on the final dimension. In lieu of a jointer, I find this method works well to eliminate any movement due to internal stresses, at least on moderately sized parts.

Then for the joinery. No idea what this is called, but when you see the pics you’ll know exactly what I was going for. I think it’s going to work well.

Then it was time for glue-up.

I thought about the blue-tape clamp job for all of these… could have gotten them all done in one shot that way, but I just didn’t know if I’d be happy with the result. Then I thought I could clamp them all together side by side and use some big cauls for the top, but again, I feared not closing all the joints properly due to the really thin fingers on each of these pieces. So, individual glue-ups it was.

Till next time!
