I have wanted to build a cigar box guitar for over two years from the date of this video. I found some kits online at so I decided that would be a good intro into the world of cigar box guitar building. This video shows the construction of such a kit.

I decided to do all of the work and make the neck myself instead of purchasing one that was pre-made & pre-drilled. This one will be fretless, simply because the instructions don’t include how to add frets. I did purchase the fretting guide and some fret wire, but I don’t have the saw I need to cut frets yet. I think I will explore that area of guitar building on the next one.

Coming along nicely. These intrigue me.

Hot tip, the $8 Harbor Freight wood handled pull saw is the perfect thickness for fret slots. It’s a good little saw especially if you don’t want to invest a lot of money into CBG tools.

I met a guy at an arts festival in November who makes and sells these. They actually sound pretty good! I’m looking forward to seeing your progress!
