Good way to join LJ

Wow, what a great idea it was to finally join LJ and immediately participate in the 2019 Mallet Swap! Not only I got to try making one (took way more time than I expected or had been ready to spend), but also received a much nicer one from d¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤.

Since I finally got to use some wood I haven’t had a chance to try before, I learned that:

  • White oak is a really nice wood to work on. Reasonably hard to make tools from, pleasant texture.
  • Chichipate is really hard, but is much nicer to work with than ipê. The end grain looks nice, but the face grain and edge grain didn’t excite me as much, probably need to experiment more with finishing.

Glad to have you in the swap. You can learn a lot from this group. Don’t be shy about asking.

I’ll have to look up Chichipate to see what it looks like.

Welcome to LJ’s. Chichipate that’s just fancy Adler, right? Come on that hasn’t been done in awhile. :-)
