thinning tung oil #3: Results: end grain

The same boards cross-cut through the wells. Poplar: top—pure oil, bottom—thinned oil: Silver maple: top—pure oil, bottom—thinned oil: Walnut, with pretty wild grain: top—pure oil, bottom—thinned oil: From end grain photos, for the walnut obviously thinned oil penetreated much deeper; somewhat deeper for the silver maple; and there’s barely any difference for the poplar. Of the three samples, only poplar has straight grain; both silver maple and walnut are figured. My conclusion at is point: there is a chance that thinning helps. However, a comparison has to be done between boards with the same grain type. ...
