I am mounting an old big 1 HP GE repulsion induction motor to my old Rockwell lathe. My lathe has a 4 step pulley. My motor has a 4 step pulley. I would like to be able to use all combinations of speed. I will therefore have to have my motor slide. Anyone have a good idea on how to achieve this ?

I was thinking that I might use a mandrel with a 4 step pulley and a 4 step pulley on my motor which is hinged for belt changing. Then if I was to mount a 2 inch pulley on my mandrel to a 4 inch pulley on my lathe. That should reduce my lowest speed to at least 400 on a 1750 rpm motor. Any comments , please ?
