After my grandmother passed away this fall her children decided to sell her property, including my grandfathers old workshop. He and his brother built boats and furniture there, and although most of the tools are gone, there was an old massive glue press up on the attic. I guess the sheer size have scared anyone from taking it. It was six wooden frames of 4×4 timber, with 4 screws in each frame. Luckily I discovered that the frames was not attached to each other, as I always assumed (as did my father). So after clearing away tons of rubbish on top of and inside it, I was able to rescue it from possible death by fire or who knows what. I feel really grateful for getting this. Hopefully I get to test it out soon!

That’s an amazing find. I did a real double take on it when I saw it as it is almost identical to the one I just rebuilt. It even incorporates rod bolts like my original had. You can use it as a small press or expand it for much longer projects by using more or fewer frames and making different sized platens for different jobs.
I thought three screws per frame was a bit of overkill on mine but more can’t be bad. You certainly won’t be wanting for pressure.
Would you mind posting the size?

Great score and all the better because it was used by your grandfather.

They are about 100 cm wide and 70 cm high. The screws are 56 cm overall. The similarity is stunning! Especially since yours are in Canada and mine in Norway, and god knows how old.
