A few years ago I saw a blanket from a woodworkers wife with the words “A Few Of My Favorite Things” on it. . It had the words table saw, router, and a few other tools. It got me thinking about the song from “The Sound Of Music”(r).
So I wrote this and sang it at the Christmas toy give away at our local woodworking club. Enjoy
A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS
©2010 Gary B Foster
Raindrops on shop windows and sawdust on my kitten
Bright colored finishes and joints that are fitten
Paper thin planing that just seem to sing
These are a few of my favorite things
Clean saw cuts and new friends that are learning
Sharp chisels and planes and belt sander not burning
Thin shavings that fly with no dust on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things
When boards drop with no finger mashes
Sawdust that stay out of my nose and eyelashes
New shiny hardware with smooth working springs
These are a few of my favorite things
Children so happy their smiles seams to freeze
When they see what was made with such ease
Toys for tots that last many springs
These are a few of my favorite things
When the bench dog bites
When the kick back stings
When the wrong cut makes me feel sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad
