Seat Frames And 10 Strips
Well, not a lot of progress to report today. Yesterday I had a Dr. appt. in the morning. In the afternoon a good friend came to visit, so not much went on. Between yesterday and today I managed to get two more of rows on each side. Not much, but better than nothing. I also put two coats of poly on the seat frames. Now they are ready to be caned, another job I really like. So here's the poly.
They say it's important to have uv protection because the sun is damaging to the fiberglass. This is the best one I've tried so far. I use this poly for the whole canoe and all the wood work at the end also (gunwales, yoke, etc.). I like the gloss poly but I suppose if you don't care for the shine you could use a low gloss. I can't seem to remember how much poly it takes to do the job. I don't think you need a whole gallon, but I use a lot of this stuff for other projects so the gallon is the way to go for me. As I said, I only got on two rows today. I did first coat on the seat frames first. Then the strips, and finished up with second coat.
I took a picture of the inside. It's looking like it might be a canoe.
Cedar - $180.00
router bits -$30.00
1 Gal. poly - $46.00
3 boxes staples - $10.00
2 rolls blue tape - $8.00
10 chip brushes - $8.00
Total - $282.00
Tomorrows plan ? Who knows. I should cane some seats because it's easier on the finger. Putting on strips and seeing a canoe appear is great fun too. Time will tell.
