I decided it was time to build myself a real work bench. Initially I was just going to buy a pre-made table top and build a simple base. Then I decided i should have a pair of vises as well. And then I just sort of kept falling down the rabbit hole after that. The top is made from two beech table tops I bought from Ikea and laminated together (blasphemy I know.) The skirting is made from laminated pieces of oak which is drying as I type this. The skirting is 2×6 to make it extra beefy. So far I’m in this thing about $600 and it’s still not done. Next time I will just save up and buy an actual Sjobergs bench.
Anyways pictures:
My ghetto table base. Eventually I will replace it with a steel base on locking castors.
This is the underside of my table top. I don’t have any clamps big enough to laminate a table this size so I put it together with screws. Eventually they will come out and be replaced with dowels.
One of the skirts for my table. Some say it’s overkill and it probably is.
