Hello everyone can you tell me what woodworking magazines will pay you for submitting tips about woodworking? I don’t subscribe to any but recently I bought the American woodworker to read an article written by Darrel Pert. I noticed that they will pay $100.00 for a shop tip. I think that’s pretty good. So I sent some in and they bought one but rejected a lot more. Thought i try some other mags with the already written tips and see what happens. When I’m through getting rejected I’ll post them here for all to see. If I post them here first they won’t buy them if their in print online.

Not sure about direct payment, but Wood and Woodsmith magazine will offer some pretty nice tools if your tip earns a nod in publication.

I’ve been paid for several ideas over the years from Fine Homebuilding and Fine Woodworking. They don’t pay if they use just photos of your work but it is cool to see one’s build in a national publication.

Hi Mike,
I am in nearby East Providence, RI. Nice to see another New England Lumberjock. I looked at a Woodworker’s Journal issue and found that they will pay from $100 to $200 for a “trick” they post in a section called “Tricks of the Trade”. They also pick a winner from the posted tricks and give him/her a nice tool as well. Wood magazine has a “Shop Tips” section. If they print your tip they give you $75 and if selected as “Top Shop Tip they also offer a tool or tools valued at up to $250.
