Don't new saws typically come in several boxes ( ie, rails in one box, motor assembly in another, etc.). Broken down that way, the weight shouldn't be a problem, even if it is a cabinet saw.

Does no one want to answer the original queston?
First, how heavy is the TS? If it is a full size cabinet saw you might have to take some of it apart to keep the weight down.
You might be able to spread out the weight on the stairs by using a plywood slide. to keep yourself & everyone else safe use a rope, block & tackle or winch to slowly march it down the ply. Make sure there is a clear escape route for the "real men" on the bottom of the stairs.

It's a thin liquid, I usually wipe it on. It's similar to an oil finish, you keep putting it on as much as the wood will absorb. It works well on bare wood, makes the grain really pop and darkens a bit with age. I find it fits in well with rustic projects (although it's a bit pricey). Oh yeah, and it stinks. But it's a good stink.

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.
    God Bless
