I got a message from my sister this morning with pictures from this site.
She doesn’t know where they come from, but a few minutes search uncovered this:
http://zuzutop.com/2010/08/amazing-pencil-carving-art-by-getty-dalton/
Another thing that popped up was this Japanese site with pencils carved, just in the wood, leaving the lead inside untouched.

I’m blown away by this work, but I don’t think it’s a useful skill.
It is, however, ART.

Thats what I call very cool. I cant imagine the patience it takes to carve pencil lead.

Don,
”I’m blown away by this work, but I don’t think it’s a useful skill. It is, however, ART.”
You’re absolutely right, Don, they are amazing but not very useful. In my old age, I wouldn’t be able to appreciate the real thing with my failing vision. Those enlarged photographs are the only way to really enjoy them.
Thanks for sharing.

Yes, someone forwarded those to me a few days ago – I was just blown away. The lettering is so neat and crisp.
