My first experience with woodworking was helping my dad work on various things around the house. His trade was in electrical engineering, but he did much of the work on our house and built all the kitchen cabinetry. I managed to learn a lesson in my teen years about the unforgiving nature of power tools. I was using a radial arm saw while helping my dad, and managed to take a nice chunk out my index finger. This put a damper on my desire to be around tools for a while, but did get me interested in the medical profession, which is where I ultimately ended up.

My interest in woodworking began to come alive about the time my wife and I were married. The need to make repairs around apartments, lack of furniture etc. makes you look around and say, "I can't believe it costs that much. I bet I could make that." First project out of necessity was a kitchen table, and I've been hooked ever since. I frequently dive in over my head with projects and then have to figure things out as I go. I don't think I have the natural ability that others seem to have. Things that some make appear simple, sometimes turn into quite the pickle for me. But, I have fun anyway. It's a good thing I don't do this for a living, because I think the family would most likely starve!

My workshop is a small annex onto my garage that I've managed to cram with all the tools I can fit. Unfortunately, dividing time between work, wife, six kids, 15 acres, church etc. leaves me frequently frustrated that my wood projects take forever to get finished! I've really enjoyed all the info and ideas on lumberjocks. Amazing craftsmanship, ideas and abilities out there. Hopefully I can glean some skills from what gets shared.

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.

God Bless

Hi there,
Welcome to LumberJocks… I joined the site myself just about 2 years ago and will give you fair warning, this site is VERY ADDICTIVE, VERY EDUCATIONAL, and VERY FUN…. so sit back, enjoy the ride and learn from the other LJ’s as they are a group of extremely talented people that are also very friendly…
I apologize for the late welcome but I am currently serving overseas and don’t have a lot of spare time on my hands.

Enjoy your time here on LJ and pass the word to any of your woodworking buddies about us…
