This isn’t worthy of putting in a the project area since it’s a simple experiment. The back story. We’ve traveled with our camper all over the country. It’s a converted cargo trailer.
.

.
It’s a place to sleep with a small counter in side. We don’t have a kitchen or refrigerator. When we tour an area, or number of states on a single trip we travel from day to day. There’s a grocery store or walmart every twenty miles so we just pick up something before we stop for the night. We’ve found little need for a cooler. Lately though we’ve been frequenting events, like music festivals and such. We’ve been parked up to a week sometimes. And often parked without being able to get out to go any place. Thus we’ve needed a cooler. We’ve got the standard Coleman coolers that keep stuff cool for maybe three days without changing out the ice. But it’s often not enough, and I’m tired of buying ice at campgrounds only to have bagged cubes melting soon as they aren’t blocks. I considered a Yeti cooler but the price put me off. The price of a small fridge.
.
Finished cooler. Notice hole with small digital thermometer mounted inside.

.
So, I decided to make a cooler. Something well insulated. The pictures are self explanatory. 2” dense foam, R10 held together with silicon and boxed in with 1/4” plywood, edged with moldings cut from a 2×4.

The result. The temperature goes down to 40-43 degrees. A refrigerator’s ideal temperature is 40 degrees so good there. I put three two liter soda bottles frozen solid with ice in on early Friday morning and The temperature finally started to rise on the following Saturday evening. So, 8-9ish days of the correct temp. I think that if I have items in it it might even last a bit longer.

A few build picts.
