Anyone removed a wheel from a Grizzly bandsaw? - 10 replies

My new G0555LANV came with an out of balance upper wheel. Grizzly sent me a replacement along with some bearings and urethane tires. I haven’t started to take it apart yet, but before I do I wanted to see if anyone here is familiar with the process, and the tools I will need to make the swap. Any other pointers for the project? Thank...

Do I need to lubricate something in my dust collector? - 20 replies

This is what my Harbor Freight dust collector sounds like when it’s winding down. Wait until the very end where you hear the screeching sort of sound. Is this normal, or should I be lubricating something? Thanks for any info!

Timberwolf bandsaw blades - 12 replies

Are the Timberwolf bandsaw blades that everyone talks about getting from Suffolk Machinery the same as the Timberwolf blades that Woodcraft carries? It’s quicker for me just to stop by my local Woodcraft than to order online if that is the case. Thanks for any info!

Bandsaw Setup / Snodgrass Video - 13 replies

Just putting together my first bandsaw (Grizzly G0555LANV) and in preparation have read/watched everything I can find. It seems that universally, people praise the Alex Snodgrass video as THE resource to watch on bandsaw setup. After recently watching it again, I have some questions for those of you who have followed his methods. You’ll...

Finishing noob looking for affirmation on plan - 8 replies

So I’ve never been happy with my finishing jobs to date, but I’m optimistic this time around… I’m looking for affirmation on my planned technique and finishing schedule for a curly maple / purpleheart picture frame I’m making for my dad. It’s his birthday and I bought a blueprint of Wrigley Field that I’...

Power strips? - 6 replies

Does any concern need to be given towards the type of power strips used in the shop for my 110v tools? Only one tool at a time would be running. Electricity is not my strong suit, I’ve read about concerns with amp draw on startup etc… and want to make sure that the power strips I buy for the shop won’t cause any damage to any o...

Fence Slop - 4 replies

Is it normal to have some “slop” in the fence? What I mean is, you loosen the fence, slide it to a spot on the rule using the cursor, and when you tighten the fence it moves slightly so the spot on the cursor has shifted slightly? Thus requiring you to loosen the fence again tap it, and retighten? I have a T square style fence tha...

Would you buy either of these drill presses? - 4 replies

I’ve been waiting for a decent deal on a drill press. It would be my first one so I don’t have a ton of experience with them. I know to check that the spindle turns smoothly. Anything else a guy should check for? Are either of these decent models? Would you buy one? They seem like decent deals. I’ve never heard of the older ...

Heavy or Light Mineral Oil - 12 replies

My wife works in a pharmacy where I can get a good deal on mineral oil for finishing things like butcher blocks. I guess it comes in two varieties though – heavy and light. Does anyone know which I should be picking up for wood finishing? Does it matter? She says the light stuff has more the consistency of water, where the heavy stuff i...

Just thought I would let the site operators know that I received a DM on Twitter, clearly not from them. I’d suggest changing the password ASAP.

Adjusting beds on Shop Fox w1745 jointer for coplanar - 3 replies

I picked up a shop fox w1745 jointer on Craigslist, I am on a limited budget to support my new obsession and I got it for a steal. After getting the rust cleaned up, and sending the blades off for a much needed sharpening, I need to get the beds into coplanar. There is nothing in the manual, and no obvious adjustment points to do so. Google h...

Air leaks on HF dust collector? - 14 replies

So I’m setting up my first dust collection system, running my HF 2HP DC through a thien baffle. I’ve got some HVAC tape and some silicone and was preparing to do some tightening up on my separator barrel. To my surprise, my separator actually seems pretty tight. Around my DC unit is another story. While I’m going to use hvac...

Care for Starrett combo square? - 16 replies

So I came home the other day and there was a bag with a bow in my workshop. My wife had ordered me a Starrett combination square (she must have been sick of hearing me talk about them)! Now, I live in Minnesota and my workshop is in the garage. I’m still working out insulation and heating/cooling, but for now I deal with moist (and cold...

Any concerns with a used miter saw? - 6 replies

Hello everybody, I need a “new” miter saw, and found a Delta 36-322L for $185 on CL. Budget is tight, but I don’t want to buy a saw that will die after a year either. Should I have any concerns about buying a used saw, several years old? Do any of you have an opinion on this saw? Is it worth the asking price? The price...
