Cyclones for a 1 man shop - 13 replies

Can’t decide between the Grizzly cyclone at $1074 with shipping or the Oneida V series} at $1822 (with shipping) with the added options that are standard for the Grizzly. Seems like a huge price difference. I know that the motors are very different (Taiwan vs. USA), and everything else about Oneida seems great, but is it $700 or so bet...

Excalibur Cast Iron Router Table and Woodpecker Plate - 3 replies

Does anybody have this combination currently? I know the measurements are identical, but the Excalibur plate is $140, and the already drilled for my Triton Router Woodpecker plate is $100. I know I’ll still have to drill 2 holes in the Woodpecker plate to mount it to the Excalibur table, but I figure 2 holes is better than 5, and is less...

Older Blue Jet 15" Planer - 8 replies

There’s a guy selling one of these that has sat in storage for several years. He’s asking $750 for it, and will be sending pictures to me. Realizing I am missing several details that affect the price, but assuming there is no rust, the motor is fine, the knives will probably need sharpening, is this price in the ball park? Seems h...

Dewalt DW735 Replacement Part Question - 6 replies

I just ordered a new chip ejection adapter since a small piece of plastic broke off the adapter, and made it difficult for it to stay on when I attached the dust collection hose to it. The replacement part that I ordered has these sharkfin-like protrusions inside that are all different sizes and/or lengths. I am assuming that this is perhaps a...

15" Planers-Ugh! - 27 replies

Just sold my Dewalt DW735X planer for full asking price (faster than expected). I went to my local machinery shop and they sell a lot of General equipment. I inquired about 15 inch stationary planers and he said to stay away from anything made in China. He said if I could find one made in Taiwan, jump on it. He fixes a lot of the machinery a...

New Fine Woodworking Site - 4 replies

Umm….I don’t like it. Wayyyyy too many ads. Very cluttered. I pay the yearly subscription. I pay for the content. The price is the same. Why do I need to see ads for table saw blades first when I simply want to read a review of them? What am I paying for? This pay-for-content model will not work with the obnoxious ads slowing...

Mortisers-Powermatic PM701 or the new General 75-040 M1??? - 8 replies

I think I’m torn between the two. The General retails for $399, the Powermatic for $479 (sans chisels and bits). Only one review out there is by Popular Woodworking, no others. Lots of stuff out there for the Powermatic as it’s been out for a while. This is another link to General’s website for the 75-040 M1. Any opinions/...

Benchtop Mortisers-Which one? - 15 replies

I am a weekend hobbyist, but I am admittedly picky about my tools. I just don’t have time to waste on bad tools. That being said, I have a birthday coming up and can’t decide which benchtop mortiser to get. The Delta seems like a great deal with the $50 rebate, but should I splurge and go for the Powermatic 401 which is quite a bi...

Help with burning 1/4 sawn white oak - 6 replies

Hello, I was wondering if anybody had any tips on this. I am cutting bevels at 27.5 degrees and when I rip the boards, I’m not getting burns. However, when I crosscut the same bevel (almost like a raised panel look) I get burn marks. I’m using a tenoning jig for the cross cuts and I double checked that my blade is parallel to the ...

Jet Dust Collector 1100-Thien Baffle before or after impeller? - 3 replies

Just got a hardly used Jet DC 1100 on Craigslist. I’m ditching the 30 micron bag of course and ordered a Wynn cartridge filter. I have a Thien trashcan baffle attached to my much smaller Rikon dust collector that I have been using. I’ve been happy overall with the performance of the baffle. With the the Jet’s 6 inch intake ...
