Retaining walls are used to stop erosion or collapse of higher degree ground
onto a certain building, structure, or standard area. The ground that is preserved is
usually referred to as backfill. The term backfill can be employed as a verb to
describe placing more dirt behind a retaining wall to create the ground more level.
