Project Information

This primitive shaker style table is approximately 26 inches high, 25 inches long and 14 inches wide. The base is pine, with boot jack legs, is painted black over mustard, distressed and sanded and a final coat of stain applied for the aged look. The top is either pine or ash? Not sure- got the board in a pile of free wood, it seemed a bit heavy for pine- so I am going with ash or?? Top is finished with 4+ coats of tung oil and the whole piece has been handrubbed with beeswax.

BTW I can't see anything else than potted plants on it, maybe the "primitive" feel to it :)

It' s a bit big for a plant stand. The primitive crowd uses these types of stands for their crock shelf.

Ya got the adjectives part down pat, Rustic, primitive, Old wood. they must love it.
Top looks like ash, but,... Hmmm could be Chestnut, all depends on how old it was?
Looks great.

That one's purdy, Kelly. I like the two color effect. Top looks like ash from here. Bet you don't get to keep it long.

Thanks again everyone. I really like the simplicity of this project. I think the antique pottery piece that I dusted off is what makes it look good. :)

Really cute. Love the crock too. I've never used tung oil or bees wax. Interested in trying it.

Janice, tung oil is sooo easy and it makes a nice low gloss finish for primitive or rustic stuff. Just need to use about 4 think coats. Beeswax and BLO mixture is a nice final finish it smooths everything out so nice and it gives some depth to the paint and wood. :)

Everyone, thank you for your kind words of support. :)

Did you build this?
If you did, then you are really a woodworker by now!
Fine work.

Mads! Of course I built this! Are you implying that I copied and pasted someone else's work? ;) You silly goose. But I thank you for the compliment. This was so easy to build. Way easier than log and slab I have to tell you.
