Project Information
Oh to be a Boy! The Treehouse was almost completely made with recycled materials, mostly finds from freebies.
We all worked together on it. 6 by 6 Treated lumber was set in cement, eight total posts (3 along each side, and 2 casing the ladder). The Decking structure measures 12 by 13 feet centered over a Huge Western Red Cedar Stump that is over 12 feet wide. Probably at least two hundred years old. We put a trap door and ladder on the inside of the treehouse which is a 7 foot square building and 9 feet tall on the northern side. A great thing about this Cedar Stump was that it was hollow, which made it easier to cut an opening with my chainsaw leading to the main access to the treehouse. There is one sliding glass window, two port hole windows and a large window. The coverings for the porthole and large window were made from a garden gate that I cut into three pieces. The vintage door with a window was found, painted, and hung. I plan on putting a set of stairs and railings around the decking for safety and access. I am also going to run power to the building. My son wants me to put a crows nest 20 feet up in the Fir tree next to the tree house.
