Project Information

This is a new cutting board I did to play with design a bit more and make some attempts at being more creative. It's still a smaller board, probably 12×10 roughly. The wood is mahogany and red oak, finished with just mineral oil. Fun project, ran into some challenges, learned some stuff…the usual.

PS. I am a woodworker and NOT a photographer, FYI this thing looks better in person than from my crappy camera on my phone.

Tommy,
As a member of the LVDT Club I want to welcome you as a member. This is a very nice board. I really like the design and the use of the bit on the edge. It looks like this layout pattern would also make a very nice end grain board pattern as well. Don't worry, the pictures are just fine. A couple of thoughts for you. On you final coat on mineral oil, try heating the oil and add about 30% beeswax to the mixture. It will give the board just a touch of luster and it will also aid in the sealing of the board. I have found that on single sided boards adding poly bumber feet ( item B http://www.leevalley.com/US/hardware/page.aspx?p=62154&cat=3,40993,41285&ap=1) gives the owner of the board a little help in picking up the board and it does not slip around on the countertop whlie in use. Very nice and can't wait to see what you come up with next.

JR, appreciate the comments and the classy way of suggesting new techniques! I think I'll try some of what you suggested, particularly the bees wax.
