Project Information

These are my first attempt at serving trays. I came across this blog and thought I would give it a try. Most of the wood came from my ever increasing bin of scraps. Originally, they were supposed to be cutting boards, then I decided I wanted them to be trivets. I changed my mind one last time and went for serving trays. I guess really, they're more of a decorative food display sort of thing or something or another. At any rate, they're Christmas presents and hopefully they will be well received.
These are made from Wenge, Oak, African Mahogany, Black Walnut, Cherry, Maple, Padauk, Jatoba and Cedar. These are sanded to 600, burnished with 0000 steel wool and then buffed with cheesecloth. The finish is Daly's Kitchen Wood Treatment wax. I apologize for the quality of the photos. Thanks for taking the time to look and any comments/critiques welcome.

Great designs and craftsmanship Brad. The wood combinations really work well. I like these a lot. No need to apologize for the photos… I think they came out great too. Good job all around.

Brad, these are gorgeous and look like a nice way to handle those scraps that we can't seem to be able to part with. I just hope you have not depleted your scrape pile because I don't think you are going to be able to get by with only making two of these. :)

Hey Brad, those look great.
I will second Larry's comment about the influence.
That padauk is always a winner. Love it.

Thanks a lot LJ's. I was thinking the same thing about the Native American look as they were starting to come together. I really didn't have a "vision", just started gluing up and using what I could from the scraps.

Scott- Not to worry, my scrap bin still runneth over. lol
