Project Information

I am getting ready to make some holiday gifts and I thought a table saw sled would be a great way to improve the quality of my work. I have wanted to tackle this project for a while but never could quite find the time. With money being tight right now I searched the internet for diy ideas for hold downs, "T" track, stop blocks etc. After watching a series from www.eaglelakewoodworking.com on youtube, this is what I came up with. The sled is made from a 2×4 birch plywood "handypanel" and the fences are 2 pieces of 2"x2" poplar glued together. I routed the hold down slots from the underside with a 1/2" bit at a depth of 1/4" and then through routed the slot with a 1/4" spiral bit. Three of the four slots came out perfect but on the last slot my router walked a bit. So now I have 5 slots…guess my next project should be a new router base with a BIG straight edge. The final addition was a pencil holder on the far fence. I am always losing my pencil around the shop and this has helped me out so far. Hope you guys like it and my thanks go out again to Eagle Lake Wodworking.

Very nice and excellent timing for me… I was just in making some measurements for my updated sled. I like the pencil holder… nice touch. And thanks for mentioning the "how to" for the slots. I didn't want to use T track on my sled…

Nice looking sled. I have been pushing around making one of these for quite some time now. Going to favorite this one, like the stop block setup and the pencil holder is a nice bonus.

Thanks too for the link to Eagle Lake. I will be watching some of the additional videos there. Really like the set on the sled.

That looks like a very well thought out crosscut sled and it looks like you did a wonderful job in the making of it.

Very nice. I really like the hold down. Not only will I be making one of these for my table saw, but I see similar applications for my drill press and band saw. Thanks for sharing.

Boy…seems like a lot of bother for a pencil holder…LOL.

Great looking sled….I don't know what I did without one…once I put one together. I hardly ever get it off the saw….and I keep working on improvements to it….it sure makes cutting the smaller pieces a lot safer and straighter.

JD, what's the underside look like? I'd like to see how you kept the bolts on the bottom of the sled clear of the TS.

Claymation…here are some pics of the underside. What I did from the back side is rout a 1/2" slot that was only deep enough to accept the head of the t bolts. Then I went back and routed through with a 1/4" spiral bit. in the new pics you can see how the bolts are recessed…Let me know if you have any other questions…thanks for lookin'
