Project Information
This is my first piece of furniture made out of walnut and I really like the color (without having to stain it!). I'm also a fan of the modern/contemporary style furniture that have lots of clean, straight edges with almost a minimalist touch. I had to buy 3/4" walnut plywood which was pretty expensive by itself, but I tried to use cheaper birch plywood where I could get away with it. The top is solid wood and one of the boards had a natural hole in it which produced a really striking grain pattern that I wanted to keep. I filled it with epoxy to stabilize it and it turned out pretty good, but I realized later I should've dyed the epoxy dark. I also had a hard time getting all those tiny bubbles out (if someone has a good way to avoid that, I would like to know!). All the drawers are on KV full extension slides.
Everything took less than 2 months from start to finish and about $325 in materials, not including any new toys I had to buy like the Kreg pocket screw jig.
