Project Information
This is the one that didn't get completed prior to my grandmother's death.
It's a gift for mom, now-something for her office desktop, and … to remind her of a woman that my whole family deeply loved.
Though my heart was certainly in it, I really didn't do my best work.
The finger joints are imperfect, and … the darned handle … is a skosh off of parallel.
D'OH !
Ah, well. "The touch of the artist," I figure-right ? ;-)
The Padauk and Soft Maple (if I remember correctly. Please let me know if I have that wrong) are all book matched, and finished with three coats of Watco Danish Oil, in "natural," followed by a couple of coats of citrus paste wax (love the smell).
My most significant learning on this project: after you've practiced your finger joints in scrap lumber, and gotten it right … do a FEW MORE practice joints, in scrap, and THEN move on to the "expensive" and final lumber ;-)
Thanks to Sharon for telling me that long-grain to long-grain would glue up just fine. Cleaner. Simpler. Worked great.
Thanks, all.
